Good navigation through the five different commentaries. Easy to read and of course very interesting. I didn't give 5 stars because there are some better editions of this works done separately but this is a good collection of them at a very good price.

Contemporaries of Julius Caesar were correct - his writings were neither lyrical nor clear or necessarily grammatical. Nevertheless, his commentaries are extremely interesting and one of the few works written at the time the action took place. I would recommend a printout of Roman Gaul, Roman Hispania, Asia Province and Roman Africa to help to identify towns, rivers and battle sites.

I have this in an audiobook. It's worth your time in either format.

My Latin teachers always encouraged me to read Caesar’s book. I put it off for almost 50 years. There is a lot of information about the culture and landscape of the conquered countries. Most of the book deals with military operations. It is a wonderful glimpse of how people lived in those ancient times.

This translation of Caesar's Commentaries was excellent. It was easily readable and very entertaining. In my opinion, it humanized Julius Caesar in a way I haven't seen done before. I highly recommend this book!

Caius Julius Caesar was a talented modern man.Much as Winston Lord Chuchill did, he would have received the Nobel Prize for literature had he written today. Indeed, we have literature today because he defeated and greatly civilized the barbarians who wished to invade his country.He was religious for his day and was Pontifex Maximus long before he was general.His language is complex and revealing. And his writings are confirmed by no less than Tacitus and Suetonius.Even though we are more impoverished by less Latin, in translation the sterling qualities of Caius Julius Caesar come through and his work in translation should be adopted again in our school curricula.
