"Paris in Stride: An Insider’s Walking Guide (Rizzoli) is a handy-size illustrated guidebook by two ex-pats, Jessie Kanelos Weiner and Sarah Moroz, who provide insights into the “real Paris” they know and love. Weiner’s charming watercolors of the city (and its food and wine) are the next best thing to hopping on a plane."—Jocelyn McClurg, USA Today"This useful and handy guide transports the reader to the Paris that only locals know. With unique and compelling narratives on culture and history, the authors have created an authentic glimpse into Parisian life. The attention to detail, originality, conciseness, and readability will most certainly delight the casual and veteran traveler."—New York Journal of Books"Charmingly illustrated with more than 150 of Weiner’s delicate watercolors, the book curates walking itineraries the authors put together to go beyond the typical guidebooks."—Times of Northwest Indiana"Full of gorgeous illustrations of the circular city and chronlogical itinerary planning of where to go next and why using the neighborhood map, this 170 page guide will easily fit in your carry-on and is the new must-have for your next trip to Paris."—The Simply Luxurious Life"Such a rich trove in a book small enough to carry with you through the city leaves only one negative feeling in you: If you consider yourself an expert on insider Paris, this book will prove you wrong!" —The Paris Blog". . . There's no better gift than the latest — and hands-down prettiest — guidebook from Rizzoli, Paris in Stride. I thought this was going to be my answer for fun in Paris. The organization and maps are inaccurate and lack detail. We head to Montmartre for an adventure. The map was upside down. Stairways, which there are a lot of, are not marked. Also there are not enough cross streets to know where you are. Distances are not marked so you are in for a long walk at times. The book is shallow in content so once you arrive at the location you have a small description making you wonder if is was worth the walk. There are much better Paris walking tour books. Not recommended
I'm a huge fan of Jessie Kanelos Weiner. I follow her art on Instagram (@thefrancofly) and was so excited that she was coming out with a travel guide to one of my favorite cities. The book provides several, perfectly curated walks that will show you the very best of Paris from an insider's perspective. And the beautiful, watercolor illustrations to accompany are just lovely. I may need to buy a second copy so I can cut the pictures out!Whether you're traveling to Paris or just love the city as much as I do, I could not recommend this book more. I'm so excited to plan a trip back to the city of lights and let Jessie be my guide!
Such a beautiful little book! Will look beautiful on my coffee table and will be tremendously helpful when I travel to Paris! I love that the authors have lived in Paris, giving you the insider's guide on the best places to go. On page 97 it even gives you the best location to stand for the perfect view of the Eiffel tower that's across the street from a McDonald's and adjacent to the Metro station. Love it!
One doesn't even need to purchase a plane ticket to Paris to get a feel for the Parsian city, it's all here in this compact walking guide. Despite the unmerited comments about the font and lack of maps (there are plenty, with starting points and path), this is everything you would need to find the hidden treasures speckled throughout the town. The authors did a very thoughtful approach to make this guide not user friendly, but to also paint a small picture full of enough detail and description that the reader will understand what to expect historically, culturally and experientially. Accompanied by Jessie Kanelos Weiner's lavish watercolors, the book is chock full of all the information one would need traveling the less travelled areas with clever and super helpful tips such as "wine vocabulary" and "how to handle the cheese counter" that will have you appearing less like a awkward first time visitor and more like a seasoned pro. Bottom line, if you're going to Paris, get this book.
Paris in Stride...arrived in my mail yesterday. I love it! It’s the perfect size, feels good in my hand, the colors and illustrations are brilliant and soothingly joyful. We will visit Paris in a few months and I’ll have this book with me for sure. We have two days already planned with typical tourist-type events. But now the other five days, we’ll have this wonderful walking guide and plans to capture the essence of life in Paris—exactly what I hoped for. Perfect timing for us!
I love long weekend trips to Paris and my favorite thing to do there is wander for hours to find new and special places. This gorgeously illustrated book shares some of the best walking routes through the most exciting neighborhoods. It includes many of my favorite shops, cafes (I need a print of the page with Les Deux Magots), restaurants and pastry places and so many new finds that I haven’t been to yet. Looking forward to packing it in my carry on next month when I travel to Paris!
I never buy brand new travel books… They're always boring, predictable, and lots of blah blah blah.I do however enjoy buying older vintage travel books that are over 50 years old. This book is so good I'm convinced it will be a collectible in 20 to 25 years.Well-written and to the point with beautiful simple watercolors that should inspire anybody to pick up a paintbrush in Paris.
This lovely, well written little book is a wonderful addition to my arsenal of Paris books. The watercolors are charming and each tour is as if you were strolling around Paris with a friend who lives there, as Jessie does.I travel to Paris 2-3 times a year and know my way around pretty well and I found nothing inaccurate about the information in this little guide. Also, the Montmartre map is NOT upside down.Add this wonderful little book to your Paris collection or, better yet, if you have people in your life who love Paris, give one as a gift.
